Our Wonderful Volunteer Derek

Derek has been visiting his wife Jill at Haling Park for the past 3 years, they have been married for 58 years.

Derek has known Jill since she was fourteen years old, and they are childhood sweethearts.

Derek was in a serious motorbike accident, and when he was in hospital Jill would visit him every single day. Derek’s time now is dedicated to his wife who he says “is his life”.

They both had a passion for gardening and would spend time together looking after their own garden at home. Derek has been volunteering his time and dedication in the afternoons and evenings to help maintain our sensory garden.

Sometimes you will see Jill by his side in the garden, while he is tending to the plants. In the late afternoons, you would often find them both reminiscing over their wedding album and sharing memories.

We are very thankful for Derek’s continued support of the Home and his recognition and hard work have not gone unnoticed in the home. We are blessed to have Derek as part of our team “Thank you Derek for all that you do!”
