Haling Park Carnival
Every year since 1966, Notting Hill Carnival has taken to the streets of London, spreading joy, excitement and indescribable positive energy to everyone who comes across it. Hosted and led by members of the British Caribbean community, this carnival is known to draw millions of people from all over the world to take part in the festivities.
Here at Haling Park Care Home, we feel very lucky to call the South Croydon area our home and to be so close to the events that take place throughout the entire Notting Hill Carnival period. That’s why we chose to host our very own ‘Haling Park Carnival’ so that we could bring the party atmosphere to our residents who would have been unable to attend the carnival first-hand. Residents, friends and family members were all invited to attend our celebration, and dancing was most definitely encouraged.
For entertainment, we turned to our excellent Activity Coordinator for help. Our Activity Coordinator, Waleria, has always worked wonders when it came to our varied activities programme, always making sure that our residents had the opportunity to take part in new and exciting tasks, or adventure further afield on fun local excursions. We knew she’d know exactly who to call to get our carnival in full swing.
We were fortunate enough to host a professional entertainer for the duration of our carnival experience, and all of our residents really enjoyed having a sing and a dance alongside him. Our garden area was decorated from top to bottom with brightly coloured bunting, party decorations and plenty of carnival masks. We even had our incredible culinary team prepare a Caribbean-themed buffet, with an array of delicious foods for our residents and guests.
We’re already looking forward to hosting the next big event and inviting all of our residents and their loved ones to join in with the celebrations. We always like to make sure there’s something new and exciting for our residents to look forward to, and hosting celebrations like this are guaranteed to do just that.
