Evelyn Turns 100 – We Enjoyed Celebrating a Milestone Birthday on Saturday at Haling Park

Resident Turning 100

A fantastic time was had by all at Haling Park Care Home as we celebrated the 100th birthday of one of our residents, Evelyn McLean.

Evelyn, who turned 100 years old on Saturday 20th March, enjoyed her special day with staff, residents and members of her family at the home who were able to join us on the decking for a socially distanced celebration, and making the most of the good weather.

Evelyn Albertha Mclean was born on the sunny island of Jamaica on 20th March 1921 - the third of five children born to Mr William and Mrs Mary Smith. In 1954, Evelyn migrated to England, where she raised 13 children – going on to enjoy an amazing 40 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren.

The day was filled with wonderful gifts, delicious nibbles, drinks, balloons, giant birthday card and of course a fabulous birthday cake. Of course, no birthday is complete without a rendition of Happy Birthday, provided by a very special guest, local singer Barry Stevens, who did the honours. Barry also entertained residents and guests with a variety of hits from the 40’s, 50’s, 60’s and 70’s - all huge favourites and suggestions from Evelyn and her guests.

Haling Park Manager, Prakash Bundun said:
‘We are very privileged to be able to celebrate this wonderful lady’s 100th birthday, albeit in slightly different circumstances than we would have liked.

“Evelyn has always wanted to receive a card from The Queen, so it was fantastic to get one in the post. It was a truly special day for everyone at Haling Park and of course, for Evelyn, who had an unforgettable time.”
